Standard air-dried sand remains the sensible choice for large-volume work where drying time is acceptable: fairway topdressing, tee rebuilds, bunker fills, and athletic field sand caps. On those jobs the cost difference across several hundred tons outweighs the handling gain.

Dyed Green Sand: Cosmetic, but Not Only Cosmetic

Green-dyed topdressing sand and divot mix use a non-toxic colorant so the applied material blends into the turf canopy rather than showing as a white or gray film. The most common reason superintendents specify it is member perception: greens and tees look finished immediately after application instead of looking dusted for two or three days.
